Letter draft, 9 June 1892, to King Mata'afa.

Draft of a letter to King Mata'afa concerning the arrival of the man-of-war HMS Curacao and the political situation in Samoa. The draft is in response to the king's letter of 8 Jun 1892 which is also present. Included are an engraving of Stevenson, a photograph of a bust, and two photographs of Stevenson in Samoa. Bound in blue morocco by Baynton of Bath.

Robert Lewis (later changed to "Louis") Balfour Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 13, 1850. He attended the University of Edinburgh intending to become a civil engineer like his father, but ill health curtailed his studies and prompted him to travel to warmer climates. This inspired Stevenson to write stories, novels and essays about his travels. While in France he met American artist Fanny Osbourne.
